    SS insignia in Craig's auction

Guys, Looks like someone dumped a nice lot of SS bullion insignia into Craig's coming auction at the last minute. Check it out, some real nice tabs at not too unreasonable starting prices.

Yes, we got a last-minute consignment, Greg. I had almost decided not to include them in the auction, because it was too last-minute to get them vetted. But fortunately, Dave Delich stepped into the breech and gave me the thumbs up on almost all of them. Those "approved" examples made it into the auction.

Of great interest to me is the Inspectorate tab, and the SS Panzer Beret Insignia. I wish I could bid on my own auction, because I'd be gunning for those.

I joined the auction...I saw some good stuff on there...I think auctioning is the way to go with collectibles..it gives many a chance at good things. But that eagle looks like its a bigfoot style cap eagle.

A quick not. When I went to Craigs site to look at the SS insignia. I saw that he had a sheet of printed Hitler Youth armbands. I had a HJ Marine uniform for sale recently with a printed HJ armband that a majority of people on this site said was bad because the HJ did not make printed armbands.I thought it was a given that the HJ did not have printed armbands. So what gives?

It is my understanding that printed armbands were made late in the war. This set came out of the woodwork in Carlsbad, CA recently, and was I think discussed on WAF. I can try to contact the picker to ask him more about the vet. Please feel free to start a thread for this particular lot.

Back to the eagle - This eagle was NOT part of the consignment that was vetted by Delich (those that were, mention him specifically). This eagle is indeed fake now that I look at it, and I will remove it immediately and return it to the consignor. I'm sorry it slipped by us! One of the reasons I like to load artifacts well in advance of the auction.

                Eagle ...

Definitively " Big Foots " younger brother ......
Its odd how some people even today are taken in by him.
                Regards

You may wish to review who 'us' actually is because that was a one-looker.

Craig Thanks for the reply on the HJ armband.I'm glad to hear it because it validates mine. I have my eye on more important items on your auction.

I have seen very few original printed HJ armbands. They are late and quite scarce.

I would not sweat one bad eagle, on Craig Gottlieb Auctions. Looking through the listings, and getting ready to bid, I am impressed at the quality of the material and the low starting bids. Bargains may be gotten and rare items, seldom on the market, are offered. I would say that most dealers have a percentage of copies on their sites. With over 300 items, one copy is such a tiny percentage. Not to mention, but Craig Gottlieb Auctions guarantees authenticity, which is completely opposite of any other auction company I have ever know of.

I must say I am impressed with many of the items, although I seem to get outbid on the last day. I hope to be successful this time.

Thanks, Bob. Appreciate the feedback. As for the HJ armbands, they are indeed seldom seen. I think there are more examples on that one sheet than you will see in a lifetime at shows!

Regarding the auction in general, it is my hope that in five years time, collectors who want to "get out" will not have to sell to dealers anymore, but will have the auction as an option. Of course, I'm putting myself out of a job at the same time I'm creating a new one!

Craig, seeing as you are the author on the Gau Honour badges as well as Honour rings

Isn't the Warthegau badge on the auction A-typical of it's very rare type ? It certainly differs from the one original shown in posts 8 & 9 here .. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=422872

I'll not post a link to yours as it will only disappear.

I'm sorry, but why would a link that you post, disappear? If you have a question about a political badge, I'm sure Greg would prefer you start a thread in the political badge forum.
