I don't know a lot about SS items, but I have this one small remark: How is it possible that a M43 Feldmütze was used in Poland AND Stalingrad? And at the same time dated 1944?
Funny Totenkopf by the wayLast edited by Peter Moelans; 06-28-2004, 12:00 PM.

Maybe we should make up a story. The Totenkopf was field-made in by a drunken soldier who wanted a slightly different design than is comrades, just to show off. He sewed it on his newly acquired cap, while he served with occupation troops in Poland.
Just for fun, he travelled trough the Russian lines to stalingrad, to put flowers on the grave of his commander who was killed there in december 1942.
The russians captured the poor soldier -who was doing no harm at all, he even left his weapons in Poland, just to make shure he woudn't hurt a single Russian- and they sent him to a camp. The Russians didn't think he was SS, because they didn't realise it was a Totenkopf on his Feldmütze.
The soldier escaped in 1947, and arrived in Germany in 1948, where he died of excitment because he was back home. His wife descided to keep the Faldmütze as a souvenir to her beloved husband.
So, who said there was anything wrong with it? Nothing wrong at all!Last edited by Peter Moelans; 06-28-2004, 12:23 PM.

Jack,
My obsessive compulsive nature says the heads must have the same color, but there are size issues with the caps -so that is why I have all these different colors???
Johnny this seller would be wise not to trade with me. My headgear are all Pakistani reproductions.
Wow, this Ebay cap that has travelled from Poland through the frozen hell of Stalingrad (SS was there, right?!!) and back and luckily for us it has been stored for our future enjoyment safely since 1948.
I think this may be actually be the cap of Michael Wittman himself. Only a Panzer ace such as he would command such elaborate Totenkopf embroidery as this!
It should be in a museum in my opinion! I can't believe the auction is only at $207.00 for such a piece of history.
