    death's head

I picked up this death's head badge and wanted opinions on it. I believe it's good but it's not my area of collecting and wanted to make sure of it's authenticity prior to listing it for sale. Also approximate value. thanks rich

No doubts on this one, IMHO.

Yes, that is a nice early deschler plated skull.
              Good pick up

thanks for the confirmation, posted it to the e-stand since I don't collect these, I don't have any emotional attachement to it

                    Missing Link??????

It sure looks like the standard unmarked Deschler skull with the M1/52 backing. I believe this transitional piece represents the use of the unmarked skull front die and a new M1/52 marked reverse die.

In my opinion, this is a standard M1/52 skull that just happens to have a slight resemblance to the unmarked skulls, due to the positioning of the eye holes as they were cut out. However, there are several distinct features that appear on the unmarked skulls that are not present here.
If someone can post a close-up of an unmarked Deschler skull, I can point these features out. Anyway, very nice skull.

                      Best, Chris

                        Chris,

Look at the suture lines above the nasal cavity. They are strongly defined, like those on the unmarked skull. I cannot find a M1\52 marked skull with suture lines as defined as those on the posted skull. Also, check the upper teeth on right side (as looking at skull). They look more like the unmarked skull.

                          Comparison

Here is a comparison of the subject skull and my unmarked "Deschler".

It's the strong 'male' brow ridge and more rounded formation of the cranial suchres I associate with the unmarked Deschler.

No doubt there will be dozens of others
