    As you are in the US maybe your wife can relate to something closer to home - The War Between the States (or Civil War if you like).

    Find a few websites auctioning Confederate tunics and Battle Flags and show her how much that militaria is selling for and say that at one point this stuff would have been worth almost nothing. Now authentic Battle Flags go for anywhere from $100,000 and up - and these were home made.

    Then tell her that German / SS militaria is also the same - once worth almost nothing but has steadily increased in value over the years.

    Give her some BS about it being yours and her retirement fund and that should convince her....
