Non SS collectors also frequently use this argumentation against many of the rare and very expensive SS insignia.

Indeed... but we are talking about a bit of yellow cloth, stamped with a simple design..... How much easier does it get?

Of course there are originals.... but buy one at a show, and .... who knows...

"How much easier does it get?"

Very easy indeed, which is why I previously stated: "I dont think original stars are that rare, but I do think it must be extremely difficult to seperate the few real ones from the sea of fake ones."

However as with everything else, I am sure with experience and the study of originals, it is possible to make an educated guess about originality.

Maybe they should create a Holocaust related stuff forum. That would help

I consider them SS related. I wonder how many of these turned up at the early "hotel buys". I doubt many. Does anyone know of any example with rock solid provenance? People need to remember it's just cloth and thread. All you need are period pieces of cloth and thread along with some sewing and you'll have yourself an example indistinguiseable from the real deal. The crudeness makes it all that much easier and the money they bring make them a favorite item to be faked. I'm just beating a dead horse now, my apologies, but I would like to see an example with rock solid provenance. In regards to the pieces in this thread, if the owner feels they are good, that's all that really matters.

                    Best wishes,
                    Joel

I think it would be limited to "I have one from the original wearer... and your one is different...."

                      Which is useless.

Dont forget, the Germans did not make it easy for Jews..."Buy your star from the central wholesaler!"... I am sure every town had a group of jews doing "System D" to get some made up... There is no "Juncker and Deschler made the only original ones..." but maybe 100 or 200 local tailors desperately making up batches to confirm to the law....

All anyone can tell is ..."Well... it looks like old cloth..."

The ones I posted below came from my grandmother, she kept them for a couple of her jewish friends at 1945, her friends took them of their clothes and for no reason gave them to my grandmother who kept them. I will try to make some more pictures if you like also from the back for study purpose.

Then don't collect anything then.Faith is part of this hobby,If you believe it's real through a confident means, that's what matters isnt it?If others concur/agree,it just adds to it.You must have experienced real ones that's how you know, and listen to the advice of other collectors who know.If you scrutinize everything to that degree, than what is really real?Do you ask yourself everytime before you drink a glass of water,is this hydrochloric acid because it's a clear liquid?Relax.

Then don't collect anything? Well, in a way, I took you advice and got out of SS related material. I got into an area where fakes, at this time, aren't a problem. Comparing it to drinking water? I guess if there were a 95% chance of it being acid each time I went to drink it I'd be worried. Wouldnt sleep too good at night, but hey, if you can buy this stuff and not worry about it, good for you. You might want to search the forum though. A lot of money has been lost on 100% original items proven to be fake. No other area of militaria collecting is as faked as SS and related material, like these stars. That's just a fact. Damned facts.

                              Best wishes,

One last thing. You said "faith is part of this hobby". Not with me it isn't. Facts, history and provenance are part of this hobby with me. I don't spend my money on faith and faith isn't worth squat when you try to sale something.
