    SS Tinnies

    Dear All,

I have for sale 2 SS tinnies on the E stand.

One I bought from the E tsand and the other I bought from Weitze, to avoid any problems. I would like to have your opinion.

For your information, I put these 2 also on the other forum some time ago, and there were no problems.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Rene

Rene already knows my opinions but I will post for the membership. I like the first example but I do not like the example with the skull. I think this is a relatively new high tech copy of an original tinnie that has appeared over the last year or so. This piece is a different die than the originals and the pieces I have examined seem to be very high quality castings. I see them now at shows for 100 dollars and they used to be rare.

I also wondered about the second one, when I saw it on the estand.
I know nothing about tinnies, but I did have the good fortune to see one of these last year from a vet's estate. There was a lot of other stuff, and all turned out OK. I was cinical about this piece, as I'd never seen one before, and the design looked 'too-good-to-be-true'...
I have since learned that these did exist, but this one shown here does not look like the one I saw from the vet. Especially the skull (and overall 'newness')
          just my thoughts

I cannot comment on the first one but I've also seen a number of the second one offered for sale lately. There are a few small but noticeable differences between these ones & known originals

            Cheers

I would like to add also that the repro of the skull tinnie is thicker than the original skull tinnie and does have somewhat of a new look to the piece. It is interesting in that the die does not match up with a known original..so I would guess the die may have been made with machines that were copying an original design...if you look on GD, John Pepera has examples pictured that I am confident are original.

When I first saw a skull tinnie it was a show about a year ago and the dealer wanted 100 dollars for it. He had a lot of repro stuff and is one of the guys with the connections in Germany with regard to getting fakes out of there. I at first was thinking that it would have been fortunate to find such a rare tinnie at such a low price but then I looked at it a bit closer and I began to doubt it. I made the mistake of passing on a real one a few months earlier which had an asking price of about 300 dollars.

Since then I have seen these tinnies a lot on internet auctions and at shows.

                Dear All,

I just received an answer from John he showed me his and mines, and there are some differences. Only he is not sure if this is a repro or not.

I agree when you see suddenly "a lot" of a certain item you have to be very, very careful.

Weitze think think this one is 100% authentic.

                Best regards,

                Rene
