The runes are fake and the tresse is the East German style.

We need to be careful because there is an elongated diamond tresse that is WWII period and it has metallic content, unlike the later East German pattern which seems to be a strictly celleon type.

These are SS Dachau boards recently on the E-stand which feature similar tresse and are WWII manufacture.

Richard thanks for pointing that out. There is no doubt that there is original tresse in this elongated diamond pattern.

I have seen it on many original boards, collars, etc. but it also comes up on fakes and modified rank items. I am not saying that the insignia or tresse posted is good either, it just needs a check in hand whether it is good or bad tresse.
