    SS Boards

I do not normally buy SS insignia but picked these up on an auction. I have concerns for both. The officer boards look like they might be Heer with the black base added and the piping/facing materials on the NCO boards look odd to me as well. Anyone else think these may have problems?

Please point out the specific area on the officer boards that led you to believe they are Heer with black bases added.

The nco-boards are hard to judge on these fotos.

The Führer-boards kann be Pionier-boards, with added red piping. These is normal rayonpiping that you can´t find on a officer-army board.
But imo they are correct SS-boards.

Here are better images taken with a Macro, I piping on the NCO boards reacts to UV.

The NCO straps for sure have a strange facing material. They look like a heavy burlap type of weave I have never seen on any strap. Construction looks ok IMO

The wool material of the boards themselves has no nap and is similar to the stuff normally seen on the inside as lining for SS board tongues. The piping worries me most especially with the UV reaction.

I like both sets. Odd about the UV. Maybe someone tried to clean the piping at one time.

The piping has a odd rope like apperance and if it reacts to UV then that would scare me. is it a bright reaction or dull ?

                      Johnny,

Although it is hard for me to tell by these photos, I kind of like the Obersturmfuhrer boards for Artillery . . . but I don't have much to say for the other pair. If you want to know more for the Officer boards, take some more pics with additional angles, and post them - but so far, I would say

The piping is very much like what most here in the past seem to agree is (or at least "was", maybe at one time? ) not easy to replicate . . . to me, it appears to be the "proper" type weave in rayon . . .

The officer boards seem to be allright. I would not touch the ones reacting to UV

                          Johnny,
Sorry, that type of piping "ribbed" on the NCO's boards is fake made of Cotton not rayon often seen on the early fake straps that were ss-bw marked

Okay thank you. I will try to take a picture of the UV reaction later today.

Thanks again, just for reference here are examples of the UV reactions, the 6 board is a WWII bring back for comparison.
