It appears to be an unfinished die forged SS cap eagle...it had gone through the forging/stamping phase and had yet to go through another phase where the excess metal was trimmed and then the prongs added...I know though that on some struck pieces the planchet is a blank piece cut to size and then stamped with the design...as is done with US coinage...it would appear here though that the design was first stamped/cast and then the piece was to be trimmed afterwards...

Chris, would you say this piece is die forged or die stamped?

                    Hi all,

This is a test strike eagle. It is die struck. As you probably know, each of these die sets had to be checked and RZM approved before the RZM mark and maker's marks could be added to the dies. Well, the is the test stamping that was used to check the dies and it was never intended to be a finished eagle, just a die test and that it why it has no markings, pins or finish.
Also, it is much thicker than the regular eagles.
                    Best,
                    Chris

No story, but it is absolutely real. It was a gift from a good friend of mine.
                        Glad you like. Best, Chris

Also, I finally found an aluminum M1/52 SS cap eagle and an "RZM 52" cap skull.
I even picked up a 100% original SS tuxedo vest button.
If anyone would like to post these here, just let me know and I'll send them too.
                          Thanks! Chris

Cool , But where are the RZM and M#/### markings? i would have thought that would be all part of the stamping process.
