    SS tuxedo buttons

    Hello,
a friend send me this pictures and he wants to know if these buttons are good or not. In my opinion I would have doubts about the originality! But I would like to hear your opinion, before I give him a wrong answer.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Dagaz

      No

No, it's not the standard Alum. Button. These are higher grade ones, if real, but what happened to these buttons and chain? I have to run but I will look at some pics in my Archive later.

Although the aluminum ones are most commonly seen, due to the recent Austrian water-find, there are also some named and documented jackets that have silvered tombac buttons. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance to examine the reverse of one of those. I have one of these buttons just like above, and the detail and quality are excellent.

The Austrian fellow who recovered the stuff is here on the forum. He's been selling these buttons, D-rings, strap clips, belt hooks- all SS marked in lots on the e-stand, all water-recovered...

Thanks everyone (also Dr. Strangelove for the pictures)!

I've understood correctly, that your opinion is more in the direction of an original piece?

Although some experts say that these buttons came only in aluminum or nickel, there are several attributed mess jackets, widely published, that exhibit silver plated tombac buttons...
