    SS Ehrendolch

    Hi all,

I have the opportunity to buy one of these Ehrendolches. Since such items are quite expensive and heavily fake, i would like to obtain some expert opinions and advice.

Firstly do you think the piece is original?

What about the handle as it looks very fresh?

Any opinion on the construction, maker, approx year it is from?

Which of the two is more collectible?

Lastly - what would such an item be approx worth?

    About the chain link hanger?

    Many thanks

PS Note that these are two seperate daggers with two prices, one cheaper than the other!

First of all I would not call it an Honor Dagger but an SS service dagger model 1933.

IMO both are original. The Eickhorn has troubles with his grip. I see some serious cracks?

Check also if the scabbard fits nice together with the blade. Mixed parts are as dangerous and problematic as fakes.

Thanks for the reply Wim. yes I noticed the cracks but i am not in the shop location so this is a potential remote purchase...so all info is appreciated.

What would you reckon each is worth (rough guess)?

You reckon they are all the original dagger or parts for various daggers re-assembled?

          Dagger

Not being from the US, I would like to advise you to stop using the slang word,"reckon". The dagger looks 100% from what I can see. It is not of parts and is in very good condition.
          Value:$3500-$4000.

Thank you Peter for the advice if not the comments on American vernacular

Reckon is not slang. If I said "I be fixin' to buy me an ole shank, hot dang!" then that would indeed be US slang.

Might I ask which of the two daggers you reckon is worth that price estimate?

interesting Peter. let me ask as a european being why it would be better not using it? I picked up the word when I lived in the UK for a while..they all used it there all the time and it translates actually quite good..just curious

Anybody any comments on the grip of 1196/38 (Edward Wüsthof)??

From the photo it looks much fresher than the rest of the dagger and sheath?

Reckon is derived from Germanic language, the middle English verb is rekenen. Even today, Dutch uses the verb rekenen meaning "to calculate". It is not archaic but a modern verb still is use today. From here it has passed into common use, and was a navigation term "dead reckoning" - an estimation of position. Considering the origin of the word, Europeans are perfectly entitled to reckon away to their hearts content.

                        Hi guys,

That is not USD, it is Czech currency.

What about the grip on the top dagger - any opinions?

Czech currency - since the guy seems to be everywhere hopefully not an offer from Pawel Novak.

                            Hi,
see that there is no 4.500 on a sticker, but 45.000...This is about 1.770 Eur or 2.350 USD

If you want an SS dagger I would wait for a nice early maker model.
