    Sturmgeschutz trousers

    Hello,

Would like to have some opinions on this pair of Sturmgeschutz trousers.

This pair is mint and unworn.

In the pockets of the trousers still trace of some red tailors chalk for the cut of the pattern.

As you can see Italian HBT used on the pockets and to reinforce interior of the trousers.

Cut, style and production details (button holes, garment used) appear to be period original.

    Thanks for looking.

    Regards

Never handled a real pair...can't really comment..but caution is the key obviously with anything SS and SS Stug/Panzer for sure.

Can you show the chalk cut lines at all? Glenn and Scott are correct...caution is the right word here, tread carefully.

Richard, I have included some pics where you can still find traces of the red chalk in the pockets.

Glenn, could you share you thoughts with us, why you would pass on these ones?

For me, these trousers look textbook, but, would be more than happy to know what's wrong with these trousers.

                      Regards

Without going to much into details..although the reenactor makers I've talked with, tailors, and anyone familar with tailoring should agree, any chalk lines...or other such lines...would be there for some obvious reason, MOST OFTEN to facilitate the construction of the garment itself, as opposed to the fabric bolt stampings. Close inspection of many pieces..Heer/Luft/SS will reveal if looked over closely such details, however, in most cases..it will be rather obvious why they are there..if they are cutting lines..then one would have expcected to see a cut there, unless they are scrap material left over from cutting..but usually when the patterns were laid out on the bolts of material prior to cutting and marking...the patterns themselves had been made such as to most efficiently make use of the fabric and scraps saved for other items or in the finishing of the same items. There is a good book on the Lodz ghetto..rather heavy reading.which has a great section on some production notes..and other details.
So, in the case of these markings..I can't see really their purpose. Some uniform makers I've talked to are already making or throwing these details into the mix, so, again, this is not something that is unknown to the makers of these garments, I wish it were.

                            Hi Scott,

Thanks for your comment. I haven't seen those chalk lines before. These lines are on both sides of the trousers, so it does't look like that they have used left overs from prior cutting.

Trousers appear to be made out of complete panels instead of left-overs.

I will post some additional pictures from the inside.

                            Regards
