    Danmark

The Danmark Regiment tunic on page 72 of "Waffen SS Uniforms and Insignia" by Krawczyk and Lukacs appears to have this same style of eagle on the sleeve. Anyone know anything about this particular tunic, since no ownership credits are given?

I don't have the book you refer to, but if it's the tunic with the Danish flag collar tab and Regiment Danmark cufftitle I would not use that particular tunic as a reference. The Danish flag collar tab was used by the reserve company of "Freikorps Danmark" (this Danish flag collar tab was discontinued by the end of 1942) and at the same time the tunic has a Regiment "Danmark" Bevo-like cufftitle (distributed only 2nd half 1944). The combination of insignia used on this particular tunic is not what would be worn on a Regiment Danmark tunic in 2nd half of 1944.
Looking for any original items related to Danish W-SS volunteers

These eagles don't look the same to me. On the top eagle, the feathers under the left wing are different than those under the right wing.

Are there legit eagles that have this feature?

After looking again at post #2, I see that a lot of the difference in the feathers is due to the picture. The feathers in #2 look the same under both wings.

But, I have seen other eagles where the feathers were different under each wing. So, I still want to know if this is the sign of a fake.

I have gotten very mixed reviews of whether this type eagle is period or not. I have also shown it to several well known collectors offline and they like it. I just don't know. I will say in my opinion some of the approved types are not terribly well done either.

                SS Sleeve Eagle

                Good day fellow collectors!

This Eagle is a good one guys , there is a book by Mr.Bill Costley on the 6th-SS Gebirgs Division Nord that shows this bird on a tunic. Mr.Costley has published three books ( Out of print I think? ) to depict the Waffen SS, Fallschirmjagers & Heer Uniforms and equipment. These volumes include pictures of all the foot soldiers garments & equipment that Mr. Bill Costley has brought back from the War himself!!! He had the great idea to bring back one of each and this he shares with his three books. I do have scans of this insignia available to view but I don`t think I can post photos ( sorry new at this ) but if I could e-mail them to a member maybe they can be posted. Anyhow this bird is good, it`s documented and I also own one I have seen this type of bird on a M43 Totenkopf tunic & a PZ wrap as well.

                Veederzain!

Picture of Splay foot eagle in Mollo book

Here is a picture of the eagle in dispute in " Uniforms of the SS , Volume 3, SS-Verfuungstruppe 1933-1939" by Andrew Mollo, printed in 1970. It is a very detailed line drawing of this eagle (wing gaps and all) on page 43. With the usual lead time to make a book like this (taking longer in those days) of at least a year or two, we can put this eagle type back to roughly 1968. That's a pretty refined fake for that early period when these things were only worth a few bucks. I realize this is hardly final proof this style of eagle is good, but I think it's gives it more credibilty.

                      nutmeg,

the drawing in Mollo's book is not proof, in fact there are some drawings in there which are very inacurate, and yes soon after his books came out fakes based on some of his drawings did apear. while the drawing looks like it has simularities to your eagle is also has differences, and it is only a drawing an artists impression somewhat different from the real thing, and the drawing in mollo's book looks more like this eagle, PROOF would be a photo in wear.

                      cheers,
                      Gary
