I recently bought an original SS tunic that has been in storage since before 1974. It is original and exactly right but I am suspect that the collar patches are put on after the war because bevo patch is a little different from the originals I have. I was wondering if this was a pre 1975 fake or just a variant. I was collecting at that time and remember this particular tunic , but don't recall fake Bevo patches being done that early, but could be wrong. Passes the glow and burn test for what those are worth. Anyhow, comments are appreciated. This is my first time posting a picture so bear with me if it doesn't turn out!

SS Bevo Collar patch

Thanks for the info. The tunic is an original m 43 SS one and I suspected the collar patches had been added in the early 70s. A German dealer brought a few over that were stripped except for the eagles of which this was one and I think he added the collar patches. This was about the time the European dealers realized they could find this stuff from rag dealers and sell it here for a good profit, especially if they finished them out. I bought one and my friend bought another other at that time. He kept his for 30 years ( I sold mine in 1980) and I just got his. Wanted to be 100% sure on the collar patches before I removed them.
I'm surprised about the eagle though as it has appropriate age and appears factory sewn on with a zig zag stitch. When this dealer from Germany fleshed out the stripped uniforms he had his wife hand sewn on the insignia and not very well either. Sewing an insignia by machine on an already made coat sleeve is not an easy task, which is why I don't think he added it. There was some discussion about this pattern of eagle with the forked feet and thicker head on the German Uniforms forum but it was not anything that could be agreed on either way. I just want to be truely sure on the eagle before I remove it.

nutmeg,
As I said above i do not like any of the insignia, your eagle is the same as the one below, these i remember from about the 70's could be somewhat
Earlier, I believe some think this eagle is real due to its well made construction, I am not one of those that believes this, just because its well made does not mean it is real as not all fakes are poorly made, but i have learnt never to say never so if anyone has any hard evidence to support it like a picture of it being worn??
cheers,

Gary,
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll hold off removing it for a bit and see if anyone turns up any proof meanwhile, although I expect you are correct. Better safe then sorry. I think the chances of finding a picture of a soldier wearing it are pretty slim as the sleeve eagles are rarely close/clear enough for that sort detail. I bought the jacket with the expectation the collar patches were fake , but the jacket itself and bevo cufftitle (probably added but they were only about $75.00 in those days and reasonably abundant ) are real and I paid well under the value of the components. I appreciate your opinion.
