Question about M40 SS smock use

    Hello all,

I want to know if it's possible to see SS M40 blurred edge camo smock in use in 1944, and in particular in Normandy front ?
I want to realise a mannequin of this period with this type of smock I actually have...
If yes, which unit ? Any evidence of his use in pictures ?

    Thanks you for all help.

All sorts of M40 smocks were issued especially to the HJ divison. It seems the HJ received the last large stocks of M40s.

If there is no pic by tomorrow I can look for one.

      Cheers

Yes I have seen many M40s in the HJ division, most are in palm pattern.
        Thanks for your help Fritz.

Found this picture today (on the website I got it it's written that it came from HJ pzdivision..). Not sure but I think the SS man on the left wear the M40 BE smock.

          sm

See page 30 of Herbert Walthers book The 12th SS Panzer Division HJ
Not M40 certainly blurred edge, the palm smock next to it is obviously
at least an M40, all combinations are possible for 44.

            Yes.

I have checked but didn't have the time to take pics. There is a 12.SS Flak-unit and some groups of prisoners of the 12th SS with guys that are wearing M40 BE smocks (also M40 oak and "of course" palm).

            Cheers

I rechecked the Lumsden SS regalia book and yes the photo there shows two SS men catured in normandy, an untersharfuhrer and obersturmfhurer, one wears italian como pants (cool) and the other clearly shows an M40 smock but in oak leaf A I believe........
