Oh, I still care. Eagles are great when they are well executed. And your warning about the Sieder Birds and Commander Scotty's Products have not fallen on Deaf Ears.

Oh certain people in the book are on the WAF. That's what John Pic is alluding to, since it is not my firsthand knowledge I cannot comment.

VERY interesting. Perhaps JP can share some of those names with us.

Sorry for the delay in replying and thank you to all who have commented.

Number 4 is the one that came from the auction. To my eye there are differences when compared to the rest of the eagles.

Can not explain why number 3 only has six feathers rather than seven plus a big eye but that is how it was brought back. Mind you, may be I should post a listing of the SS and police units which were in that part of Italy April/ May 1945. Perhaps that might explain it ( Let me know if you want such a listing added ). They were certainly wearing APB's.

Interestingly, all the others i.e. numbers 1,2,3,5 & 6 have consistancy in the bullion, size and unterlagen used. Number 4 has differences when you hold them in hand.

I am sure that John Pic and others will know what I am trying to say and I do not want to be too specific here for fear of helping the fakers,

              Chris

Chris, I would be interested into know from which unit such eagle was taken off.
And if you have any image of pictures or documents taken from such unit members they would be greatly appreciated.

                Thanks

                  Hello T.K.,

I do not know the specfic unit that one came off but have a listing of the units being encountered or taken prisoner at the time.

Most of the documentation is from NZ produced sources esp. from Major Dennis Wood the intelligence officer of 22 Battalion 2NZEF,

                  Chris

2NZEF LISTING: "SS UNITS IN ITALY 1943 to 1945"

SS Panzer Division "LAH", August - November 1943 (some cadre attached to other SS units in Italy from December 1943)

SS Panzer Grenadier Division "RF-SS", June 1944 - January 1945 (cadre attached to other SS units in Italy) (also "Sturmbrigade RF-SS")

                      Waffen-Gebirgs-(Karstjager-) Division der SS, 1 August - 5 December 1944 (also 24 Waffen-Gebrigs-(Karstjager-) Brigade der SS sowie SS-Karstjager- Battalion)

Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (Ital.Nr.1), March 1945 - end of hostilities

                      Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade der SS (Ital.Nr.1) sowie Italienische-Freiwilligen-Legion

                      Waffen-Miliz; 1. Italien Friewillingen-Sturm-Brigade

                      SS Panzer Grenadier-Lehr-Brigade = SS Panzer Grenadier-Lehr-Regiment

Waffen-Gebrigs-(Karstjager-) Brigade der SS = v.SS und Polizei 1. Italienische Friewilligen-Sturm-Brigade (Milizia Armata) (Pol)

                      Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade der SS (Ital.Nr.1) = v.SS und Polizei

Ersatz und Ausb. 7. SS Freiwilligen-Gebirgs-Division "Prinz Eugen", April 1945 until end of hostilities

In my detailed accounts, I have the specifics of which regiments were encountered, when and where but this gives an over-view for now. Please note that 7 SS "Prinz Eugen" do not appear to be there as an entire division. The E.u.A reinforced with other elements were in Triest and just out side it. Their mission seems to have been, to try and hold a path of retreat so 7 SS could surrender to the western allies. Only some units of 7 SS got through,

                      Chris

p.s. I also have a listing and details of the partisan units that were there
