    Floppy SS Runes tab

Hi chaps , now i know this sounds strange but i was just going through my SS runes tabs & i picked this one up & it feels totally different too all my others as it is all floppy with no stiffness at all . I now remember when i got it i was curious about it but got sidetracked & forgot too post it up , as you can see in the pics it bends like a piece of felt . Whats your thoughts , as i have never handled such a soft tab

Obvious original collar tab. The stiffness depends on the amount and strength of the glue that is impregnated into the bukram backing. If any mint collar tab is flexed and handled, it will get soft. If a collar tab is laundered, the glue will break down and the bukram will become soft and flexible.

Thanks Bob , i knew the tab was original , it's just that i've never come across one floppy like this . I would say " it's like a collar tab with brewers droop "

          Tab

Nice original. As Bob Hritz stated about the glue and buckram, the materials deteriorate and do become mallable. Not seen nowadays, but often in the past; children would haul out Dad's WWII souveniers and play with them, adding to their flexible condition as well.

                Tab

On SA tabs, they used a natural stiffening liquid that was water soluble, I believe. But sometimes they didn't use enough, so the buckrum is softer. I even have an SA rank tab where there's no glue at all, just buckrum.
