    From Oakleaf Militaria ( http://oakleafmilitaria.com/097h1.html ) ...
Waffen SS officer's visor hat converted from army infantry officer's. This hat exemplifies the attrition that the Waffen SS was subjected to. As the officer ranks were depleted, "volunteers" were added from the other branches of the Wehrmacht. This hat began as an army infantry officer's visor and it is apparent that the officer who wore this visor ended his service in the Waffen SS. The hat is constructed of gray doeskin upper body with infantry white piping. The green felt capband is readily observable under the black velvet officer's band that was added once the officer entered the Waffen SS along with the SS eagle and totenkopf.

That had to be a mistake. Both caps are on Mr. Anderson's site for sale.

nice... then this bastard (not Anderson) is trying to sell his SS visor as original, using Mr Anderson's pictures

he says he lives in the Netherlends.. maybe Emiel needs to pay him a visit

But, in all reality, is this visor good? I must say it sure does look good! The visor does appear to be authentic, although, I have never had any dealings with Oakleaf Militaria. Having read previous forums, it seems as though the owner of Oakleaf Militaria has accidentialy sold fake items? Well, again, I have never had any dealings with him so I dont want assume he is a bad guy. Anyways, any other opinions about this cap? Perhaps the whie piping on the bottom has came off or it was requested by the owner at the time it was made to not have the white piping on the front of the visor. (For what reason I dont know). Can anyone else tell if there is piping around the back of the visor? Thanks all!

Quite a few well-meaning dealers end up acquiring a bad name for selling things they know nothing (or very little) about on behalf of 'friends' who use them as a front to peddle fakes. See the Third Reich Depot for example.

Ian, thanks for the reply. I can understand how well meaning dealers accidentally sale fakes. I am sure dealers do not intend on selling fakes as this would hurt business! Anyways, this cap appears to be a good one. Although authenticity will always be in question when dealing with SS items. But, SS items are some of the coolest items!

You only 'accidentally' sell fakes for so long before it becomes deliberately selling fakes.

Ha, the eternal conundrum of the SS collector.

If you want to know more about Oakleaf Militaria I would strongly suggest you try a search in the Cloth Headgear Forum and this Tony Barto SS Forum, I believe you'll read all you need to know

(waits for incoming fire from the Chicago area )
