    Dachau urn tag

    Hello all,

This came out of a grouping and I was told this was a tag for an Urn filled with ashes of an inmate that had been cremated at Dachau concentration camp.

    Opinions/Comments appreciated.

What should I do with it? Are there people who collect Holocaust related items? Do you think a museum would want it?

What makes you think its a holocaust item?

The date of death is well before any of the main Jewish deportations began.

Dachau was not an extermination camp and if this tag is what it claims to be it is far more likely to relate to a German nationality Political or Criminal prisoner.

            Regards

You may be right, as Tiflis was a Georgian town until 1936 when the Communists took power (where he was born) so he may have been somehow related to this.

Just curious, but are we sure this tag is from the Dachau concentration camp and not from the city of Dachau?

Well I am under the impression that this was one of the tags on the clay urns that ashes were placed in. From what I have read ashes were identified as the family could purchase the remains for a fee from the camp. It would be a real coincidence if this came from the city of Dachau, the man was born in a foreign country, and cremated and needed a tag for his urn. I believe the 3388 is his prisoner number, and I believe Techniker was his job within the camp (Technician)
