Early SS EM with SS Aluminum Insignia?

Take a look at these SS hat insignia for me ..They came off a early Allgemeine SS EM visor I purchased today ..These look like aluminum insignia to me ..Correct ??? Did they ever use these types of insignia on the early hats or were period replacements ?

Skull and Eagle

The skull is not aluminum, but is was recently painted or leafed. The eagle is irrelevant.

As said the eagle's a 70's fake and the skull has a strange texture near the pins ... perhaps had the pins reattached and then been painted to hide the mess.

I'm not convinced the skull is real. Look at the reverse photo of the bones where it's really rough. Fake or real & replated, it's ugly either way IMO.

Put the skull in some lacquer thinner and clean it off with a toothbrush and soapy water. Then we can give a better opinion.

Good idea. Maybe that's just glue or solder that's plated over. PS: By "ugly", I was referring to the reverse.
