    Lol, nice suggestions.....

NCo tresse, volunteersshield that never was on it in the first place...

While you are at it, why not add Demjansk shield, DkiG loops and 5 tank destruction badges....

No wonder its hard to find an enlisted mans tunic these days...

You should just buy a set of officer tabs...dont damage a pair of enlisted tabs for that...also only the insignias that the shadows indicate should be restored do not add anything new to it.

I couldn't agree more, in my opinion this is the difference between a "restoration" and a "humped up" tunic, when collectors start adding stuff that was never there you go from a historical representation to a fantasy piece, sadly this happens all to often.

          Regards,

            Regards,
OK thanks for the input John and Seth!...changing ranks is really not humping up as we really dont know what the rank was to begin with... Because of all the loops
I was thinking officer is most appropriate, but perhaps senior NCO is the way to go after all. (and more valuable, more scarce).
The flat silver runic tab would be perfect for that impression....but also for officer.

Anyway now the tunic (still not in hand) is a "blank canvas" and all insignia that's going on there will be put in ghost areas except for the volunteer shield.
Perhaps I won't put the shield than. I agree now!

Now adding a tank destruction badge, embroidered DKG, and campaign shields is a different matter, that's humping it up. That wont happen guys! No way! I promise!
            That's creating false history...

That's why I am sharing my thoughts so I can get opinions on how to do it right, the first time around. I am open to critisism/comments so the feedback is very much appreciated!
            Thanks guys!

I never suggested NCO tresse...that's why I was thinking officer impression... but others (like Besslein who knows SS very well) suggested NCO. Highly awarded enlisted is indeed also a possibility!
When in hand I will check if it had tresse and if it did have tresse at one time (appears it did based on the photo) the restoration choices would be NCO or officer (NCO promoted to officer) .
You can really go either way I guess without necessarily creating false history! I now agree that the shield is not a good idea! No ghost area for it so it never had one to begin with!
That is going too far! ("humping up" territory!) I am with you on this! I appreciate the input very much!

Shape of the collar suggests it has been "officer-upgraded". Can you post the other side of it?

If it has traces of collar tresse (it appears it does based on images) it could still have been officer used, with or without officer modified collar shape which you are suggesting...
Who knows? but my plan is officer restoration, as it would simply be a promotion.

Eagle and tabs being removed (denazification process) is not unusual, but who would remove collar NCO tresse post war? So my hunch that was done during the war
for a promotion to officer status (look at all the award loops)... = part of the tunic's history! (but some members suggested to restore it back to NCO....

Anyway I will further inspect it as soon as its in hand! and take more pictures (back side)
Seller reported some delays with dispatch due to a grave family emergency... so still not in hand yet...These are the sales thread images which I've kept!

                        Nick...

I was just having a fun time seeing the suggestions to what to do to a tunic while having those not so clear pictures.

I think its better to wait for the tunic to arrive and see what has been on the tunic, please post pictures under the collar and i would also want to see the award loops.

I think this tunic had postwar insignia on it nicely sewn. Here is what i think was on that tunic http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=509374

                        The sleeve looks the same.

Therefor you must examine the tunic once you hold it in your hand carefully, look at the wear patterns especially.

Lets stay there until it arrives.....

                        Daniel.

                          Jumping into the pool

I have been very interested reading this thread and I would definately like to see this uniform restored.

There in lies my comment. Restoration to me means putting the uniform back to its condition before all the insignia were removed. To do anything else would be altering it to something that it never was.

From what I see this was either a senior NCO or officer... or like you are thinking an NOC who received a battlefield promotion to officer.

Do it right or don't do it at all is the tackt I would take. If it takes several years to collect the right insignia, take the time, you will be happier in the long run I think.

Good luck with your new project.

It arrived safely from Dublin today (with a big gaping hole in the box
Did not need to open the box to see the contents...)
I guess US customs was poking around in it!
Anyway here the promised images! (with my camera phone so not top quality...

Inside collar images...SS tabs for sure!
