I have a single belt hook support strap for a M36 SSVT jacket. The strap itself is one looker good, but I'm not a SS collector, so I'm outside familiar ground when trying to read the markings. I would appreciate thoughts whether my interpretation is correct.
The strap says " N. Stuba SS I ", which I read as SS Strumbann N., "N" for Nuremberg, which was formed in 1936 from elements of LSSAH and Deutschland, taking part in the Austrian Anschluss and reorganised into a motorcycle batallion in 38. I think the "I" meant the first company. There is also the round RZM mark under which it says
"Lieferant Nr 35 (or 85)", the supplier number. I know RZM codes as seen on the labels, but I have never seen this somewhat primitive style of RZM marking. There is also a faint stamp placed diagonally, which I read as "FuSturm". Sturm for company, but is Fu for Füsilier or Funk or Führung?. My guess is Füsilier, though I'm not sure whether the Umlaut is there in the stamp.
I saw in the Beaver book a strap with an encircled SS Runes stamp, but this is marked differently, so I don't have much in the way of benchmarks to compare markings.
Any comments that might shed new light?
