According to Hubert Meyer's HJ pz div history, it seems that only Rgt 26 3rd Btl had, at Normandy's time, pea dot jacket and trousers sets: pics from Normandy show a large variety of mixed uniforms but not a lot showing the full combo so it's certainly right.

As the former owner of this album was in Rgt 26, do you know in which Btl?

I had a talk with a french vet from the former 7th SS french sturmbrigade about the uniforms they wore at fight during summer 44: some guys stated that, looking at period pics, to differentiate companies at fight, 1 company was wearing full dot uniforms, other one dot trousers and felgrau jackets and the last one the opposite.
Legend he replied: the fact was during their training (which was at about the same time as the HJ div), the SS depot supplied them one set of Dot camo and of feldgrau uniform set: when they arrived on the frontline a lot of uniforms were in very poor condition (and a lot of soldiers had no replacement uniforms) so they mixed uniforms.

Maybe it was the same here: no enough complete sets for everyone?

Did someone noticed as well that only 2 soldiers wear belts? And one of them wear a wounded badge, possibly instructors.

    Nice pic, thanks for sharing.

I am still researching the uniform question as indeed most of the photographs with complete camouflage suits are most likely to be from the 26th Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment. The camo jackets were most of the times worn over their Feldgrau uniform as the jackets weren't warm enough. The LSSAH personel that were moved to the HJ-Division also would have brought camo uniforms with them. From my photographic archive here another photo to show the different camo worn. Photograph from SS-Panzer-Regiment 12 (I think II. Bataillon). Italian camo most likely brought by the LSSAH to the HJ Div.

            Thanks, Markus!

Martin Stiles, hopefully in some days some photographs will arrive, one of them is a photograph of a HJ Tanker wearing the famous U-Boat leather jacket.

Bart, about the dot uniforms: these are the late type, issued as per regulations post july 44, without shoulderstraps provisions and only with arm eagles (even if sometimes discontinued).Given the remarkable condition of the dot jackets pictured it's safe to assume they were probably just issued . compare the picture with the data in your possession to make an idea of which stage of the normandie campaign these pictures come.

              Hope this helps,

              kind regards,

              Salvatore

Another great photo! Tho not a U boat item rather a leather coat.
The visor cap he wears is obviously a converted Heer item, as was very common, having said that I have never seen one post war.

                      Many thanks all !

Perhaps it was while training, so not all of them had all their uniforms and shared the camo had for the photo, as somenone has mentioned. I have a booklet D180/1 for training Panzer Recce units dated 18/10/1943, while the division was still called 'SS Panzer Grenadier Division HitlerJugend' not '12 SS Panzer Division HitlerJugend'

                              Thanks for sharing me6-130.

I also now got his Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz!

Is there any chance of knowing what information is in the handwritten lines? Any name or grade?
