M44 Greatcoat with traces of an SS arm eagle

    M44 Greatcoat with traces of an SS arm eagle

    Hello Guys,

    What do you think about the following greatcoat?

    I know standard SS greatcoats are without the double sleeves but
    this greatcoat is very convincing to me.

    It has convincing and clear traces of an SS arm eagle being present
    at some point in time.

    There are also very faint traces of an SS armstreifel ever being present,
    this is almost impossible to get on pictures but you can see that that
    area is a little bit "dent inwards".

    I dont like traces of the eagle machine sewn through the liner. I would say good coat that someone tried to make into an SS overcoat.

        it is not M44 but M42 overcoat.

          The SS eagle...bevo/rzm..was machine applied before the inner material was sewn in...that is..when the arm was still unfinished..you should not be able to see the traces of machine sewing (or any) on the lining.

            I agree with everyone. It's not an SS overcoat. But there must have been some
            Heeres greatcoats that were taken by the SS and which were equipped with SS
            insignia? A friend of mine his grandfather was with the Flemish SS and he told a
            story that he needed a new jacket so he took a Heer jacket, ripped the insignia
            off and brought it to the tailor in his regiment to add new SS insignia... I mean
            everything is possible but in this case almost impossible to know for sure, isn't it?

              Hello Floris..I think its all possible..the problem is..collectors like to buy what is more probable than possible..either way..its a nice representative coat. My opinion..if such a coat were converted for SS use..its much easier t sew on the eagle by hand..its a cumbersome coat to work around a sewing machine...just a thought.

                You're right Scott, if this coat could only speak It's now for sale on the e-stand
                for the price of a normal M42 greatcoat so the next owner has it for the normal value or
                for a bargain price...
