    WSS Late War Zelt?

Is this a late war zelt? It's missing the grommets and appears to have hand stiched button holes. It also has 3 interesting repair patches done at the factory.. Sorry couldn't get a complete open photo of the zelt.

Thanks Fritz... Since there is no grommets is it more a poncho? Any approximate value on these.

That is a simplyfied version, the last variants didn't even have buttons, actually classic tent setups decreased more and more during the war. In late 44 and 45 field troops would prefer empty houses, bunkers, vehicles or foxholes in order to be sheltered from the elements. They would rarely set up a tent in late 44 or early 45 just as that wasn't needed all of the above was readily available in the theaters of 44 and 45.

So mostly in 44/45 these were used as ponchos or in order to cover a foxhole and often for camouflage purposes (vehicles, guns etc.). During that time only combat and medic units were issued zelts.

Value is anything between 450 and 600 euros IMO depending on what buyers you have.

              Cheers

Super late war Oak B zelt
Love those hand sewn button holes.
The white dots you mentioned is often typical of late poorly printed fabric.

All and all a very nice zelt - thanks for sharing.

                      Cheers

Thanks camo master, I wasn't to sure about the white dots. I had thought that either poor production print run on the fabric, or just plain wear marks from a poor printed piece of camo fabric. Yes, I love the hand stiched button holes amd patch repair piece. Paul
