    Dutch Legion nationality shield image

Here's an interesting image of a Dutch city Mayor, NSB member and Dutch Legion SS officer.
(The chain has to do with his appointment as mayor)

Of interest is his Dutch tailored legion uniform with uniform matching collar and very interesting insignia.
    Image taken in 1942

Look at the size of his nationality flag!
Prior to using "shield shaped" nationality insignia, the Dutch wore flag shaped nationality sleeve badges,
    but usually a lot smaller!

All insignia manufactured in high quality beautiful officer grade bullion silver !

    For size comparison purposes;
The 2nd image is a more standard size (early type) "Niederlande" flag type nationality sleeve patch.

Interesting pic and indeed a huge flag, wonder why...?
No medals or anything so he never served on the east front and as burgomeister he must of had other things to run.
        Maybe a recruiting officer job?
        Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, but...doesn't that look like a KVK (EK?) and an Eastern Front medal in his buttonhole??

Interesting and wonderful picture I have seen various pictures of Dutch Legion soldiers wearing locally made flag shields of different sizes and shapes. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

              Another treat , Nick - thanks .. !
Ribbons would indeed be that of KVK II & Eastern front medal .
What should also be noticed , is the GREY closed collar , like in the now wellknown picture of Landwacht commander Hartman ..

He was the mayor of Apeldoorn. His name is D.F. Pont and he obviously did serve on the Russian front, earning some medals,
and even became the Ortskommandant of Novgorod and promoted to Obersturmführer in that function.
This is him again (2nd from the right, too bad the flag insignia is not in view... other sleeve!)

Yep didnot notice the east front ribbon, my bad, no inf badge or other combat insignia though... so guy was orts CO of Novograd which makes sense as this was his speciality as Dutch civil servant burgomeister...
Did he command any units aswell?
