    SS skull from vet!

I was just at OVMS show in Ky and family brought bag in with 2 luft signal visors
and this black case with luft insignia on it and this great skull on it!

What a combo and Bill Brannow bought the group and I took these photos!

Now would you take it off or leave it!

I would take off the skull but leave the other insignia well alone, these really add to the case while the TK is a bit 'off'.

Unless the owner was an HG armor crewman...

You should take off the TK and send it to me!
            Best regards,

              Should I or shouldn’t I

              Hi All,<O</O

I have been struggling with this since buying it and would like some more input. The skull is sewn on and could be taken off with a finger nail clipper cutting the thread from the inside of the case. It really is a very nice skull and doesn’t really fit the rest of the case. The strap is probably an SA or HJ shoulder strap. Anyway an interesting vet put together. I was also wondering what this early TK is worth by its self?

              Here is another picture.<O</O

              Enjoy!

I think the skull was cut from a collar tab judging by the size. If the tab where complete it would be worth a good sum, but I don't know what a trimmed skull would be worth, maybe a few hundred dollars?

Could the skull have been from a hat? If it is that would mean that it is not trimmed and in that case would be worth a great deal.

John is correct, it is cut down from a collar tab. Here is a photo from "Their Honor is Loyalty" of Wilfried Richter (TK division) with a right facing one on his crusher. Perhaps he just liked the TK division style better!

It also looks like he is wearing a bevo sleeve eagle on the hat..nice picture.

Hi Bill, I would not remove any insignia from the case. It has been there for the best part of 60 years and is history. By removing it, the case would be spoilt and it's originality lost. All you would gain is some money and after all we are all really historians and money is not what this hobby is about.

                      Cheers, Ade.
