    SS skull button insignia

    Hi!
My friend asked me for opinion on this button. I am quite sure, it´s OK, but would be pleased for expert view.

    Thank you.

    Best

        Hello Dedman,

I disagree with your opinion. The buttons which are marked with M5/8 are fakes in my mind.

The button on your picture could be one of the first-generation fakes of this style.

        Regards Dagaz

Certainly not the usual M5/8 fake below . Can't say I ever saw this particular version before ..

            Thank you for your comments...
According to my last info, this button should be a ,,ground find" about 25 years ago...

            So there´s a question, who´s right?

              Hello Dedman,

so let`s wait for other opinions. But my knowledge is, that no metal insignia should start with the number "5" in the RZM system.

              Regards Dagaz

Metal INSIGNIA would carry an M1 code , but M5 would stand for uniform accessories , e.g. BUTTONS .
And even when actually worn as an insignia only , it can be viewed as such , since M5-69 is indeed an existing good code for this type of button / insignia ( for M. Winter, München ) .
                But there is more ..

I think I did find that same skull-type - it was shown by MARC VERSTRAETE before , and now it's getting interesting .
The reverse showed the logo for ASSMANN , and guess what makers code they had for uniform accessories .. ?

                    M5-8 .. !

So now we either have 2 cleverly concieved fakes -
OR we can add Assmann / M5-8 as a legit maker for skull buttons ? This aside the common fake M5-8 with a completely different skull .

I think it's time for the true experts to step in now , as this MAY be a discovery ( or did the firm of Assmann simply indulge in some postwar fake production ) .. ?

Now it´s getting really interesting for me...
Looking forward for a final judgement!

                      Thank you all

original skull buttons should only have 1 row of teeth.

                          This is incorrect.

It could be a good example of a scarce variation. Robin L. has discussed this pattern before, I think. Is he still around?
