Odd SS visor eagle

Hi guys, Does any forum member have an idea as to why this SS eagle has
a cut out section to the base of its swastika / wreath?
Any other known examples out there? Very curious variant SS eagle.
Any positive or negative input would be appreciated.

It looks to be a major casting flaw.

Based on how it is cut on the edges I believe this a defect in the original sheet of metal from where the eagle was struck...look at the edge and you can see the sheer mark continues even at the flawed portion.

Certainly could be ... I've never seen one like it before though.
