Verwaltungs-Amt der SS, => administrative office of the SS.

                  Finally. What "VA-SS" stands for

Thank you very much for posting this id. I have been trying to find out what "VA-SS" represented for a long time. It is not documented in any of my German specialty books or anywhere I have previously searched.

I noticed in a few WAF threads individuals had posted pictures of some of their items with the "VA-SS" stamp. But there was no detailed discussion about "VA-SS".

I have an early style Waffen SS side cap with the front death head disc and SS eagle on the black triangle sewn on the side. Inside the top is the "VA-SS" runes stamp and "1938". I finally guessed "VA-SS" was the main SS "Acquisition/Purchasing Office". I wasn't too far off. "Administration", a broader term, would encompass the procurement processes.

Now I can update my SS documentation. If there is another thread which provides more specific "VA-SS" info please post the link. Tnx

                  John
