Cap Eagle - Original?

I do not collect SS at all, so can I get opinions on this one? Found amongst some veteran items locally - the only German item amongst it all.

Oddities did exist but you'd be really hard pushed to pass this one on again in future without solid provenance. Rightly or wrongly I can picture this one on a panzer sidecap though.
