I believe all original examples used the runes as all are block lettered and made post 1938. In 1939 manufacturing specs were changed to convert from gothic to block. Ken Lane had some produced in the 1960's that were 6-stranded bands but the embroidery on the one posted is too crude to be one of those.
I have seen this type of band before, not one i would be happy with, the example below was on a old list so they have been around for a while, this example is 6 stand also.

PS just thought I would mention that the Czech made hand embroidered bands are 6 strand!
Another example of the 6-5-6-5 strand borders. There are various qualities of embroidery, especially on hand embroidered examples. Only the rarest titles seem to be made on this spurious 6-5 strand border type material. I would have none of them, in my collection.
