    SS Car flag???

Hello, I have posted this item twice on the forum (Flags and banners / Danish SS items) but had non or few reactions.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?p=425267#post425267

    <o></o>

Car pole and flag where found separately and but together by the owner. The flag frame is RZM M5/71 marked. I have seen this type swastika on HJ trumpet banners, Flemish banners, French SS volunteers and of course the Danish. Any ideas???

    Marc

          Marc.

I have never seen anything like this before.

          The pole is certainly OK.

The pennant is well made and I cannot fault it.

My guess would be Schalburg Korps.

          Regards,

          Robin.

It's not the Danish Schalburg Korps - 1) The sunwheel is the wrong angle 2) SS runes were not used by the Schalburg Korps.
Looking for any original items related to Danish W-SS volunteers

In analogy with the collar tabs, I would think this is from a superior Nordland division officer.

The runes are immaterial as the pennant did not originally come with the pole.

The Schalburg Korps flag featured a white sunwheel on black.

Schalburg men wore a white sunwheel on the side of their black helmets.

Their collar patch was a white sunwheel on black (and I know others also wore this).

So I still think that a basic Schalburg vehicle pennant is the best guess.

It is not for a high ranking officer and it is not Waffen-SS, which rules out Nordland etc.

                Robin.

Sorry, perhaps my previous post was not clear - the angle of the Schalburg Korps sunwheel swastica was not angled like the sunwheel on the flag. The sunwheel on the flag is angled at 45 degrees (''x'') whereas the Schalburg Korps sunwheel was not angled. The central part of the cross (''+'') should be in position: 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock for the Schalburg Korps sunwheel. You can see the correct positioning of the sunwheel of the Schalburg Korps on Marc's previous posting of a Schalburg Korps collar tab.

                  Hope this clartifies.

The angle of the sunwheel on the flag indicates either div "Nordland" or Norwegian SS...simialr as their collar tabs.

Thank you guys for the information. Now we are getting somewhere!

My experience in these things permits me to believe the item is genuine but I repeat that the pole and the flag do not belong together. Would be cool if it was Nordland tough…

I know what you mean about the angle of the sunwheel, but I still think this is more likely to be Schalburg than anything else.

The sunwheel was used by many organisations and formations, including not only the 'Nordic' volunteers but also Volksdeutsche from Hungary etc. etc.

Schalburg was distinctive by its use of the white sunwheel on black - not just on the collar but also on its flags. None of the other units used the sunwheel in this way.

                          Robin.

Sorry, but I can only repeat my previous post(s) - this is NOT the Schalburg Korps sunwheel cross - the angle was different, also on the Schalburg Korps official flags, helmets, cap insignia and collar tabs.

If your assumption is correct that only the Danish Schalburg Korps used a white sunwheel on a black background then the flag show in this post must be a repro - at least it's not related to the Schalburg Korps.

                              OK. We'll agree to differ.

The buckle certainly is NOT Schalburg.
