One thing I don't like about it is what the back reveals- see those thick white threads among the bullion ones? Those have been used to embroider a thread "template" over which the bullion would then be embroidered- this technique is typical of fakes, and not one I've seen used on an original piece...

So now we count all originals with that tech as fakes? Or sooner will born a new fakes generations, and all known originals will counted as a fakes?

I don't care much what people believe or think, I self got a title that was getting from behind bad mouthed about the base material "hen's teeth stitching" or so is it called in the US... I found then a similar title in my collection that belongs to an SS group I got back in the 80's.
So now one well known collector bought the title that was getting bad mouthed and the collector is very pleased with the title.

Espenlaub please note I did not said anything negative about this DF title.
There are super fakes out, that is well known and better skull, rune tabs and so on are currently quite often to find. Sometimes these days it is even better to have it in hands to evaluate certain things.

Thanks guys, all opinions are very very welcome.

Robert H, you mentioned the white threads you suspect are there as a template? When I look at pictures of other various CT's, the stitching on the rear of the lettering always seems to be covered.
So why is this one uncovered, or are there lots of variations?
I need to be sure of this one, thats all, as I don't want ANY fakes in my collection

And this "hobby" is difficult, especially when the fakes are getting THAT good...very sad

Tony, that was Arran's doubts. But if one day you'll find this CT is fake, I will gladly buy it

                          ,

well, you learn something new every day. The use of a pre-embroidered thread template (sometimes in lieu of an original cardboard template, sometimes where none was originally used) is an extremely common technique employed in Pakistani copies. In fact, when it comes to sleeve eagles, the use of this technique is a DEAD GIVEAWAY of a copy...

I don't think that hand embroidery has a different techs even German or Paki. Just the differences that Pakistan did not try to replicate and sell the stuff as original, their job is making replicas and get a business with replica sellers to sell in the bunch.
The problem that a fake work will be different from original, firstly the original materials and templates is hard to replicate.
I saw some very good fakes, but they are still recognizible as a fakes.
Surely the eagles and collartabs has a cardboard untelage only

Band weave pattern seems to be ok. However there are other problems as well. W strands, oversized protective support material, strange borders. When it comes to SS material I prefer to be on the safe side.

I do not condemn this cuff as a fake, but it is a cuff title I would not have bought myself.

Thanks to everyone who has commented here, I really really appreciate it .
Still, I'm not 100% convinced, but these things don't come up very often in NZ, fake, copies or genuine, so I had to take a chance. I was prepared for bad news but am still no closer to knowing the truth...that's the frustrating part about this "hobby". At NZ$260 it was quite a bit of money, but worth the risk involved ?!! It's just money
For now, I'll treat it as a reproduction and hold onto it until it can be verified one way or another.
I would love to see some similar CT's, copies or not??

                                Cheers, Tony
