Well...yes and no. I know one collector who had 1 table and sold 18K of doubles or items he did not collect. I also know of a big dealer with at least 6 tables with probably a million dollar inventory on display that did not make his table prices back.
Slow...depends on who you are. I saw a lot of stuff sell, and a lot of good stuff sit. There is always lots of bad and even some of that sells.
Tanker,, poor year for HRs.. What was there the guys were asking sky high prices. They bought high and they are holding for their money.. Less than 15 authentic HRs and even less private purchase..

Maybe the mystic has cooled a bit on these rings and prices may come down?

I am thinking the same thing. Actually I feel a few items are high price because some people "invested" for future profit rather than collectors appreciating the items for what they are. Some peices on the other hand are in my opinion underpriced for what they really are (take the Gau München) just because they lack that SS mystique. Just look at the pricedevelopment for a 36-dagger over over the last 10 years.
I don't think the totenkofring has lost the myticism. Regardless of what the hobby has evolved to, the ring will always be what it is. The way they were "awarded" and the meaning behind it will always be there.
It is unfortunate that some greedy dealers/collectors tried to manipulate the ring hobby to discredit or inflate (or deflate, depends on how you look at it) to benefit their own gain.
I think for future, the ring hobby will be always be strong to those who understand and collect them for the historical importance and not to merely buy and sell for a profit. What may happen is that it will hinder the not so serious "collector" from owning one. If they are serious, then they will invest in buying one from a document honest individual and not by the instant "experts" The ring hobby has had no more "fakery" than others, SS helmets, uniforms, medals or daggers and they continue to grow.
This is my opinion only and others can and should form their own opions. Ron
