I dont normally buy things connected to the holocaust, but this came in a while back. The pic is hard to see, but I think it is an SS guard on top of the deceased prisoners. what do you guys think?

And actually I wonder for how long either this whole thread or my explanation of GI´s murdering this SS-man will be visable here since obviously some individuals MIGHT have difficulties with the well-known fact that war is hell and the circumstance that human beings have their weaknesses in general.

Some time ago I have seen a whole part of a website dedicated to the background history of that particular photo and the depicted dead SS-man lying on dead KL prisoner corpses.

I just went and looked on the back and it does say "Dachau Horror Camp 1945". It is very old along with the writing and I didnt spend an arm and a leg on it. I hope you guys dont prove that I got scammed. It was an ebay purchase along with a bunch of other dachau pics for sale from a photo album

Glad You got it with others lessening the cost, but I would look real hard at these other photos also as there are some great scammers selling supposed original wartime photos on the bay!
Man... I hope I am wrong!!!

The 'murdered' SS guard has often been identified at Heinrich Wicker ... he is photographed wearing an M44 battledress type tunic during the surrender, the guard in the other photo of this even wears an overcoat not the M44 and I very much doubt that this is Wicker.

Here is the story of the depicted last Dachau camp commander SS-Untersturmführer Heinrich Wicker:

The german historian Peter Koppenhoefer did the very interesting research regarding this case.
By scrolling down to the bottom of the page you will come to the second page.

Actually it is not the same photo which you bought but definitely the very same event.
Hope that helps - if the pic you bought is a copy I cannot say.

This may be a copy but one thing I have learned from my Dad (ETO 1943-45) was that very few of them had cameras and what they would do is take pictures of pictures to make copies and then sell or trade them to other people that wanted them. A lot of times you end up with not very good quality images, in some of the ones he has you can see the creases on the original print in the image etc. Many on the prints being sold are modern copies but some of them are period.
The one that Lassi posted looks like one of the period copies of another print with the frame off set and slightly out of focus etc. etc. the one that started the thread looks like it is copied from something that was printed in a book and IMO probably is a modern copy.
