SS Regalia ...... Russian and Latvian Members

Do any Russian or Latvian members have copies of the books below that they would sell to me?

Apparently, my 'SS Regalia' book was translated into Russian (in 2 volumes) by a publisher in Riga in 1998 ............. I just found out today!

That has to be a nice feeling? Large sections of several things I have written in English have magically appeared on websites in Spanish without credit. Do you have any legal recourse now that they are in the EU? I wonder how good the translation is with "TORNADO" on the cover, is that the publisher.

      Hi,

Robin, i found the PDF of the volume 2 (issue 58, Tornado) if you are interested. Unfrotunately you are not credited on it.
Size if 13mo so if you can confirm me an email address, i can send it to you.

I'm still searching for the volume 1. Seemed that Tornado is well used to steal from many well known publishers and writers...

      See You

          Thanks all.

I found the PDF versions, but am looking for 'hard' printed copies.

As regards the 'niceties' of publishing, this was one of those books where the original publishers (Bison Books) paid a lump sum to obtain all the rights. They could then sell the publishing rights and translation rights on to others.

So no loss as far as I am concerned.

However, it would have been nice to know at the time that a foreign translation was being made.

Same thing happened with the Czech and Japanese versions ................ didn't know they existed until years later. (Managed to get copies of these ones).

I've lost count of the number of times my work has been plagiarised over the years.

(Ever looked closely at the awards etc. section of this site ???)

                  Robin,

Couldn't Bison Books have let you know, let's say out of respect?
The least a publisher could do is make sure you got a copy of each foreign translated book imho

Bison Books was one of the best ever publishers of Third Reich militaria ................ but they went 'bust' many years ago.

A sad loss to the collecting community ............. but a sign of the 'politically correct' times we live in.

They did their best ................ but the publishing world was against them.

                    So, I'm not complaining.

They did a great job with my book.

SS runes on the cover of a book would be a 'no-no' today.

I remember reading a post when I first joined the forum, where someone made reference to 'Detecting the Fakes' by "Robert Ludlum!!!"...I guess that would mean that you wrote the 'Bourne Identity'.

In Britain the Bison Books publishing house was "built entirely on the strength of the public's fascination with the Nazis," wrote author Robert Harris, a BBC journalist. He noted that the firm's founder, Sidney Mayer, was anything but apologetic about the reasons for his success, quoting him as saying, "I don't want to end up as Hitler's publisher. I would have thought the public was as sick of it as I am. But they are not. The booksellers always want more. Hitler sells. Nazis sell. Swastikas sell--and they sell better and better. It's the swastika on the cover that gets them. Nobody can out-swastika us. I've even thought of putting one on our vegetable cookbook because Hitler was a vegetarian."

                            Hi,

                            so true...
Is it known if someone already published studies about the "swastika business" ?

Was it a selection of your funniest photos and captions you post on the WAF?
