Opinions on this early Allgemeine SS visor please!

    Hi All,

Can I get some opinions on this early Allgemeine SS visor please!

    Thanks in advance!

I like it ALOT! Its rare to find silver as opposed to gold runes, and even rarer to find the runes in association with the larger round-backed sweat diamond. Love the early generic RZM tag too...

      Visor Cap

The RZM tag should probably be an SS one, but I'm not positive on that. I know that in some instances, brown tags were used, but I think that was EARLY. Where's the RZM mark on the visor underside? I've never seen twisted cord used as a core for Allgemeine SS piping. Another bothersome attribute is the fact that the sweat shield is long gone, but the runes are perfectly intact. And shouldn't the SS logo background be gold? It looks like they wanted you to think that there was some spongy padding behind the forehead part of the sweatband, and all that's left is the glue, but the glue doesn't look right to me. The oilcloth crown looks like it's OK, so maybe it's a Frankenstein. You should be able to look at an early Allgemeine SS visor cap and know right then and there, whether it's something you would buy. An example of an early WORN sweatshield.................

        Hi sgstandard,

The piping is not twisted is been eaten away by moths. There are no signs of being assembles.

Please I would like some more comments! My main question was the large chin strap buttons and and the RZM tag. I have never handled a visor this early bother then that it looks ok to me.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this cap. The RZM stamp on the visor is not found on the earliest examples, and the RZM/SS tag for caps didn't appear until 1934, before that, there were several types of tags used, and often no tag at all. The other style of tag I would expect to see in a cap of this vintage is the black on white "Tuchmutze" variety...

What should be wrong with the large chin strap buttons?

A very, very early, beautiful and desirable piece!

            That´s all I see.

I dont know anything about the core but you can clearly see the innerpart of the piping is indeed twisted cord if that may be an issue?
The RZM tag is indeed the brown party one and on the visor I dont see any ss markings but that probably is not a big issue?
This cap was or still is for sale on estand and I also have a positive feeling about it but lets have some more comments as I would like to learn from specialists on these early type visors. Anyone?

                Hi,

This is not the cap for sale in the e-stand. There is one for sale that is very close to this one in the e-stand.

The piping is stranded piping and there is a core is stranded piping.

I just do not know these early visors which is why I am asking.

I only have one A-SS visor and its not as early as this one but it has the tag mentioned above. Here is picture for reference.

                    Allgemeine Cap

1934 version EM visor cap with severe moth damage to the piping. The twisted cord underlayment can be clearly seen in many places. This cap was the first issued as the coffee can was phased out. Worth about $1500 in this condition, if you can find a buyer, IMO.

This is a very early, directly after the kepi flat, pancake top with the gromet vents...

Yes, Bill, your cap is a righteous piece.

Interesting to see this label still in use in 1936, even though two new types had been released by this time...
