    Unusual Arm Shield

This was brought back by a 45th Infantry Div vet who was part of the liberation of Dachau. Unfortunately, he is long passed and his grandchildren sold the group of insignia, to include a red fez, some Dachau cloth and other n0on-Dachau related militaria.

For al I know, it coule be some civilian patch representing a city or province in Europe.

If anyone knows what this shield represents, I would appreciate learning.

    Thank you,
    Bob Hritz

    Bob,

Are you absolutely sure he brought this back at the end of the war? I'm looking at the construction and have a gut feeling that this may be from the 50s or 60s. I guess I may be mistakenly basing this on what we consider to be characteristics of period-produced embroidered insignia such as the "snow" effect on the reverse of U.S. patches, or dual/multi colored bobbin threads on German insignia.

In any case, a white lion rampant on a blue shield could of course be the heraldic symbology of any number of cities, etc.., organizations, foreign units, etc..

I found only two US unit DIs that use something similar to this, but they use a gold lion (the 48th and 106th Infantry Regiments).

    Good luck.

    Bob
