    Waffen-SS Officer's Visor

    Good day all,

I’m posting this hat for opinions and would appreciate your input. I’ve seen a ton of Threads about the plethora of fake Waffen-SS visors and have yet to see one of these shown.

The hat has a light mint green lining and almost a dark chocolate-colored leather sweatband. The eagle is a 155/36, but I’m not sure what the TK is. I have seen one other of these in the 1990s and it was identical in construction. It had a staple (looked like zinc) behind the TK and small SS-marked buttons sewn on to hold the chin cord. I know staples are common on Altestes, but this certainly doesn’t conform to Alteste production. My personal feeling is that this is an original example of a very basic contract-produced visor probably meant for sale in the Officer’s Kleiderkasse.

I’m sorry about the pics, but they were the best I could get.

Does anybody see any red flags, or know definitively whether it’s good or bad?

Like I said, your inputs are appreciated.

    v/r

    Bob

The skull's an Overhoff M1/24 (That ISN'T a comment on the rest of the cap by the way)

Appreciate the inputs so far guys.

Ian, the hat I saw in the 90's had an M1/24 and I had a suspicion that's what this was, but didn't want to jump to any conclusions. Also, did you mean you're refraining from commenting on the hat, or the "good" did not apply to the hat because you're not crazy about it?

                Thanks again! Anybody else??

The was for the skull I leave caps to those more qualified ..... unless they're really obvious.

Thanks Ian, I understand completely and think that's a very sensible approach.

                      Best!

He is. Dave is above reproach, as was his late Father John who passed away back in July. He does his best to not offer items that are questionable, but if one slips by it is due in large part to a lack of familiarity across the full spectrum of TR militaria. I have known him since Dec 17th, 1994 and have never once known him to purposefuly deceive somebody. If somebody points out an item that needs to be vetted he is more than appreciative for the tip. In many cases his prices on some items in their inventory are high, but that is mainly a result of them buying items from collectors at around 80% or more of the fair market value. I'm extremely pleased to be getting this hat from him at what I think is a very fair price.

You can view his website at: http://www.johnnyg.westhost.com/
