    SS rank patch opinion wanted

Hi - Is this an SS Rottenfúhrer's rank patch? It is black, but unsure if it is Panzer, or SS, or both. Thanks Bill

Thanks. I thought so. Is there anything wrong with it?

What could possibly be wrong with it?

I guess I should have asked if it is genuine, or repro. That is what I meant by "Is there anything wrong with it."

In your post, it looks like a very dark green backing. Compare to an item made only of black in bright sunlight to be sure.

Appears original (yes there are fakes of even this, but not many).

SS or Army? They were identical, but I think the number of SS rottenfuhrers far exceeded the number of heer guys authorized to wear the black wrapper.

I also have a dark green one. I will post what appears green to me. You tell me if the first one I posted is black or green. I am technically color-blind, but it usually doesn't interfer with things. In the scan of 3 the black one is the one with a small thread. The other 2 you can see the entire chevron stitched. The other photo there is a grey, and one without any backing. Is the gray one Heer and/or Waffen SS? I know DK in cloth are either/or, so it stands to reason so are these chevrons. Thanks for your opinion. I bought this entire group at an auction in Ohio a few months back. I won't tell you what I paid for them, but they were cheap "shoulder patches"

For me this is an original worn army/Heer chevron...

Nice original grouping. If you really study them, there is an amazing variety of original TR chevrons. Being color blind certainly could present challenges in some areas of collecting. I have bought groupings where I thought a chevron was Pz/SS, but when I compared it to a known black wool item (I normally use an unissued SS collar tab) in bright sunlight, I found it was actually very very dark green. True navy blue is also almost black until compared to a black wool item.

I have attached 2 scans. 1 is natural, the other is lightened. Obviously the SS patch is black, and so is the other one, wouldn't you agree? (maybe not )

                        another scan

Here is another patch that I have, that if I look at it by itself, it looks black, but put it next to the SS and it looks green.

Based on the natural pic, it definitely looks black; based on the lightened pic, it most certainly looks green. I would make no judgement unless I could make the comparison in bright sunlight.

I agree, it looks green, but again, I am color blind.

I think you can turn SS into Heer and Heer into SS!
That is a magic trick you can make quite some money with!

( taking the color of the scan into consideration it indeed would be panzer/ss... )
