Looks more like a uniform sleeve badge.

It's about the size of an arm diamond/raute.

It might be Imperial or FK ................ but the skull looks SS in style.

I've never seen another like it.

Yes I thought raute also, could it be cut from an TK arm diamond variant?the top portion looks like it could have been pointed then cut.

There was a similar insignia used for personnel in FK Kokampf- Kommand der Kraftfahrwagenabteilung- , it is smaller than the Totenkopf Pionier badge and was on black like this but the skull is different than examples in photos.

Right, as I noted the skull is different but that is the only thing I know of that is close. Is there sand on the back of it?

                  I know what it isn't.

But I don't know what it is.

No idea, Fraternity FK etc. Looks like WWII period factory embroidery. It was sewn to something? There is black thread on it. Neat little piece.

Yes ............. it looks like it was removed from a uniform.

Aha! You bought it Robin! It looked interesting, but I did not placed a bid. I wasn't sure what it really is and the SS style made me sceptical.

But who knows? Perhaps another unknown skull rarity.

Sometimes the style of a skull don't show us, what kind of skull it is or who used it! The next one is an good example for that. In my opinion the skull looks like an early, ugly Prussia skull, but it was on a flask of the Braunschweiger Husaren Regiment 17. And we know, normally the Braunschweiger had their own tradition skull style with bones under skull etc..

PS: I think the skull on the flask looks a little bit like the "great-grandfather" of the later made SS skulls.

                            Another example.

Always when I see this photo, I think the girl was member of the "well known" SS Totenkopf Schwimmer.

But I guess she was no member...

I think only a period photo will help us to identify your skull in future, Robin.
