Not my area of expertise but my brother in law has been offered this from Denmark - is it a or a There are no labels or markings in it apparently! I dont like the skull too much!

That's NOT an Allgemeine-SS cap, although the insignia may be ok.

Immediately remove the insignia. The skull is good. Post a photo of the eagle, front and back. It's PROBABLY good, but photos should confirm. Donate the stripped cap to a needy bus driver.

Many thanks chaps, I've told him the news, up to him if he wants to get the badges OK'd!

Just a final thought - is there any possibility that the cap was used by the SS as a 'filler' or due to supply shortage although not original SS?

If you want him to clutch at straws then anything's possible, however this cap is not and never was an SS cap and you'd really struggle to sell it, let alone as SS.

Best face facts and leave it well alone in the first place.
