I just got this from a nice lady whos father was in the 101st. I missed out on the 2 matching eagles she had with it. I've never had one this nice. Seems a very high quality. Seems like silver over brass but worn to copper on high points.

Very nice! It is CupAl. The copper and silver sometimes ages to a golden/brass color. Sometimes the same with Zimmermann and Overhoff skulls.

                  thanks

Thanks for all the kind comments. I took a closer look with a loop and the "brassy" looking areas are just toning to the silver. Nearly all the silver is there except some wear to bery high areas. Fantastic looking piece in person...

Great looking skull, thanks for posting. I think she polished the skull and the eagles right down to the base metal, but they should patina right back up again.

                        Congrats on a nice find.

                          thanks

Thank you for all the kind comments. I have a question since I have only owned the zinc 7 alum types in the past. Is this an earlier type or a type found on an officers cap vs an NCO cap? Since it came from a 101st vet I wonder where this could have came from?...Hitlers house?? you never know!

                          Thanks again, Cliff

There are no differences for the officers or EM. They are all the same in that regard. As for the time period of this skull, it would fall somewhere between the early and the mid periods but could have been used until the end of the war.
