    SS pith helmet shields

I am looking for your opinion on SS shields to pith helmets.

After studying issue of SS pith helmets and WAF member opinions I have came to the following conclusions.

    1. Only JFS shields are so far considered to be original.
    2. All JFS shields are marked either “JFS 42” or “JFS 43”.
    3. There are two types of design: 1st design (photo 1 – from post of DaveJ) has a noticeable different runes design – I would call a “narrower connection” on every single rune, and thin round prongs.
    4. 2nd design has a “wider connection” (photo 2 – from post of Dmv) and flat prongs.
    5. Some members claim that the shields with flat prongs (2nd type) are wrong, while other present their pith helmets with mounted shields where you can see flat prongs inside, and they claim 100% certainty as to its originality.
    6. There are also shields marked “FP 1942” which are considered to be bad.

    Here are my questions:
    1. Why JFS shields with flat prongs are considered to be wrong while round prongs are supposed to be OK? Any evidence of flat prongs shields to be wrong?
    2. Why FP shields are considered to be wrong?
    3. Are there any other SS pith shields which are considered to be OK?

    Regards,

    JSL

And one more issue. Only shields where you can find 3 prongs are considered to be OK.

The second set with the flat prongs appear to have the pebbling running in straight lines, which I think is a sign of a fake, whilst random pebbling is considered correct, IMO.

Cant see the first set clearly enough to see the pebbling.

I dont know about the FP 42 shields, but certainly 3 pronged shields are the norm.

          FP 1942 type

They are also claimed to be OK although you can find critical opinions on this type in different posts.

I dont have a good frontal shot, but here's mine to chime in.
Personally I would stick to JFS variants.

The set I have was posted on WAF before and some said they were cast, I'm clueless when it comes to these shields. Here's my set again for comparison. If you have more input ... please ... thanks

The only shields I would collect are those with round prongs marked JFS 42 or JFS 43.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.
