    Handschar Fez question

    Handschar Fez question.
I realize that these fezes are German made, many found unissued at the Dachau supply depot. I also heard that these were occasionally French made??? Handschar was stationed in France during its training where the mutiny broke out.
I also know that French Colonial forces wore fezes so the French had experience making these...but their fezes are red, not maroon-burgundy color...

    So here's my question:
What's going on here? French made fez stripped of SS insignia???
Note note date stamp which pre-dates the formation of Handschar... (early 1943)

Fez btw is not in my possession! Internet Dealer offer...

What is it? Notice 1940 date????

Cose up of manufacterer's stamp which appears to be French and predates formation of Handschar...
    So French Colonial?

It is original and another navy or coastal artillery overseas cap is being transferred to the Waffen-SS.

Yes a good one and a pity because these earlier ones usually have the slightly larger skull. They are a bit harder to find than the typical Dachau models
