SS skull RZM 52, early one from nickel?

    Hi experts,

for me this is a period, solid nickel skull with probably resoldered, original pins.

    What do you think?

    Thanks for comments!

I think so too, it looks cast to me.

If you notice this style of TK has been showing up for about the last two years; there are a lot of them out there and they have been given the thumbs up on this forum in the past. The fakers are getting better but the bigger problem is collectors willing to accept these items. Remember if at first there are none and now there are many the fourth reich is cranking them out

I have another one like that, which came directly from a LAH vet. 100% sure period.

Not that I know much about metal skulls but as was said these are quite good fakes.

Means that at first glance the "LAH skull" you have might in fact look the same.

IMO it's in the details here, the one discussed here doesn't have the details of an original and seems to show pitting all over the surface which, at least so I have learned, is an indication for a cast copy.

If this is so, then one certain way to tell if o.p. is good or not, is to weigh both of them, if the weight is near the same then o.p. is probably good. If the weights are way off, then it's NOT good. (of course consideration about repaired prongs should be taken into account.
Also, since cast items are smaller, some minute measurements could also be taken.

p.s. This is a nice looking skull, fake or not., IMHO.
p.s.s. I have heard that modern techniques allow casted pieces to be near exact, so the "measurement" method is not 100% without high tech instruments.

I will check that tomorrow, will compare and show both of them.

This is absolutely a reproduction. The material used is common only amongst fakes. It is a horrible looking alloy and I can't see why the fakers would even use it. Anyway, the details and cast flaws tell all as well.

                    Best, Chris

a copy for my view, also the number detail is not right done as I would expect to see on an original 52er.
