ISn't this talk of some sword all a moot point??!! It's gone, it barely, if at all, got seen. Let it go. Get back to what SS stuff was at the show and what was seen and what theprices were and what anyone got. Let's stick with the reality factor. I could care less about some 'magic sword'. If a dragon shows up, I'll worrry about it then.
Quit friggin' fixating!! Let it go!

I believe (from reading the threads only) that the issue with Mr. Boyle is that he issued a COA stating the box was fake. If that is true, then would put into question his value as an appraiser.
Sadly it seems collecting is no gentlemanly game but something like "Treasure of the Sierra Madre."

Mad Max Show & SS pieces
I did not go to this years Max show. This kind of behavior has been going on for years. I am a son of a WWII veteran and Korea, and I am ashamed at the actions of some of the dealers. I went to the Pomona show in California this year and saw bronze 25 Pab for sale for around $1,100. I had seen it before many times at our local gun show. I did my home work on the WAF and was going to purchase the badge. One of the big guys, who I buy from sometimes bought it ahead of me by seconds, and offered it to me for $3,500. I walked away in amazement. This happens all the time, they are in it for the money. I have stopped buying from the big guys, because they do not need or remember me unless my money is out in large numbers. An elephant does not forget. I also collect SS insignia, which has gone through the roof with the big dealers. As for the vets, they are passing away at an alarming rate each day. They should be given all of are respect, and a fair shake for them and their heirs when dealing with brought back artifacts. I am this close to selling my collection on the WAF, and getting into my other hobbies. That is why I did not go to this years Max. Smitty

No jelousy...just a statement in fact. I been around plenty long to see it done in the old days too.
Here was another one where the poor old lady got the 'treatment'. Poor thing, her deceased husband told her to hold it and it would be valuable one day, she held on to it but then....one day....along came a 'D' ...and Shazam! -she got ...... .
I don't think Weize will make an 'article' about his 'Vet score' -Ya Think?

It's nothing 'personal' - just a conversation piece of how 'it works' on some of those 'deals'. Just, WHAT IF, it was your grandma or grandpa ? Would you be a upset or say "Well ...that's the way it goes" ?

I totally understand that dealers much enjoy a profit. They have expenses associated of running the businesses to include travel , hotels , rent etc.
That said , a dealer especially a big one is deemed by the courts to be an expert and appraiser. He is required to give a somewhat legitimate appraisal on the value of an item before purchase. If an item is worth XX amount he can certainly offer X to the buyer, but if asked of the value he must be truthful. It doesn't mean he can't offer less than the value. Only if he deceives the seller, he is then committing fraud by telling him a low value or stating it is a fake. If the seller previously offers the item for a set price the dealer can buy it without remorse.
Just ask Juno and Pritchard about the General Picketts uniform . I think Pritchard got four years and Juno was sued for 800,000 and lost.
