Here's mine. It was brought back by a Seaforth Highlander, and appears to never have been used...

Not sure if this is a good or bad sign but has anybody noticed that the same olive green thread that used to reenforce the flap button holes was used for the flap hooks AND also for the army pattern edelweiss? (so done later???)
but on the other hand the RZM marked buttons (appear to be with golden finnish???why?) are attached with black thread?
The rank pips (late Dachau style) are probably a collector add-on!

This edelweiß is not from the Wehrmacht! It is a Bundeswehr-Edelweiß and it is sewn with the same thread as the buttonholes.

Confirmed that it is a Bundeswehr Edelweiss, not a good sign to start with. In my opinion is the sweatband a little too cracked compared to the wear on the rest of the cap. Furthermore - although only a detail - if one choose to wear only one insignia, this mostly was the skull and not the eagle.
Too much issues with this cap to make me feel comfortable owning it.

i don't like for more than 1 reason

                      thread
                      absence of patina / wear
sweatband used but without a sign of use

                      and so on.

                        Obvious, .. seems bad news.

I still say no matter what, the eagle is very nice and original, and maybe someone thought they were really spiffing it up adding an edelweiss. I think the base cap is O.K. too.

Thanks a lot for your comments.
Indeed, If the edelweiss is postwar, the credibility poses problem.
My opinion is that the cap is tailor made and of the period with a good belgian eagle, pips and edelweiss added probably postwar
