    LAH insignia

    Hello all,

This came with a huge haul of US insignias and a few German bits including a Donald duck Kriegsmarine cap. Nothing glows and everything else is authentic but I need some help identifying what this is exactly. Course wool and pointed at one end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

          What Is It?

It's suppose to be an Adolf Hitler cuff title. It isn't.

Is there another explanation at all or is it 100% junk? The script is decent, why would they put it on heavy wool and not a fake bevo weave, why the size of a shoulder board, and why pointed at one end? I respect your opinion, but this is just really strange. I know it isn't saying much but it even smells the same musty smell of the stuff it came with; if it is fake it is an old one that got mixed in with a ton of legitimate stuff a long time ago.

The Adolf Hitler patch is one sold by The Patch King from 1945 up until the late 1960s.

                Bob,

I appreciate your help as well. I knew the thing was old, just not how old! Any information on what he sold it as or what it was supposed to be? Who is the Patch King anyhow, anyone have a sales catalog?

No disrespect intended here, but are you looking into collecting old reproductions?

Late in WWII and immediately after, The Patch King was buying up all the surplus US military patches, from the US Government and the contractors. They were sold as kit with available albums. The Patch King also copied several German insignia, from illustrations from the Organizationbuch der NSDAP, and US Technical Manuals. In one of my junk boxes, I have the first three fake SS collar tabs made by The Patch King: Totenkopf, Prinz Eugen, and Handschar.

There is a 1945 issue of Life Magazine that features a boy who collected all the patches offered by The Patch King, and, I believe, there are several German insignia shown in the feature. These were produced by The Patch King.

You might remember seeing ads in the back of boy's magazines and comic books, from The Patch King.

No, not at all, I just had never heard of the Patch King before and was looking for a little insight.

Nice work Bob, an older collector with useful knowledge that is no longer available to newcomers. I remember those Patch King catalogs too. It's also great that you still have examples of those first tabs produced.

The patch king stuff can be recognised by the weave on the back of the badges.

I have an original Patchking AH cufftitle and the Aug. 6th, 1945 Life magazine that shows in a collection. One difference, mine does not have the backing material.
